Now welcoming our first families and volunteers

Every kid deserves someone cheering them on while they learn to read.

Janagram pairs young readers with trained, background-checked volunteer coaches for friendly 20-minute video sessions. You book the time, and you stay in control.

For families

How it works for families

  1. Pick your level

Choose from six reading levels, from first words to short stories. Your child picks the one that looks just right.

  2. Book a time

Choose a 20-minute slot with a volunteer coach that fits your family's week.

  3. Read together on video

Your child reads a sentence aloud while their coach cheers them on and helps with tricky words. You stay nearby.

For volunteers

How it works for volunteers

  1. Apply and get verified

Complete a background check, a short training, and our code of conduct.

  2. Set your hours

Post the times you're free. Families book the slots that work for them.

  3. Help a kid read

Listen, encourage, and move to the next sentence when they've got it.

More about volunteering

A session

One sentence at a time, together

The sentence sits front and center in big, easy-to-read letters. Your child reads it aloud, and their coach helps and celebrates.

The reader and coach see the same sentence. The coach can highlight a tricky word, and only the coach moves on to the next sentence.

Safety

Built for safety from the start

Adults and children on video together is serious. These protections are requirements, not extras.

  • Every volunteer is vetted

Identity verification, a background check, required training, and a signed code of conduct. Our team approves each volunteer by hand before they can meet a reader.

  • Parents stay in control

You create the account, book every session, and stay nearby while your child reads. Children never sign up or log in on their own.

  • No private messages

There's no chat, direct messaging, or file sharing. Volunteers never see your email or phone number. All contact happens inside booked sessions.

  • Sessions are recorded for safety

With your consent, sessions are recorded, reviewed only if a safety concern comes up, and deleted automatically after a fixed period.

  • Report anything, anytime

A report button is always available during and after sessions. Our team can end any live session and suspend a volunteer immediately.

Our story so far

We're just getting started

Janagram is new. Once our first readers and coaches have met, this is where we'll share how it's going.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Who are the reading coaches?
Adult volunteers, 18 or older, who have passed identity verification and a background check, completed our training, and signed our code of conduct. Our team approves each one before they can meet a reader.
What ages is Janagram for?
Children who are learning to read, roughly ages 4 to 9. Pick the reading level that fits your child rather than their age. You can change it anytime before a session.
Do I need to be there during sessions?
Yes. A parent or guardian confirms they're nearby at the start of every session, and you can join the video call whenever you like.
What do you store about my child?
Only a nickname, an avatar, their reading level, and their birth year. We never ask for your child's last name, school, location, photo, or email. Read more about safety and privacy.
