FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Who are the reading coaches?
Adult volunteers, 18 or older, who have passed identity verification and a background check, completed our training, and signed our code of conduct. Our team approves each one before they can meet a reader.
What ages is Janagram for?
Children who are learning to read, roughly ages 4 to 9. Pick the reading level that fits your child rather than their age. You can change it anytime before a session.
Do I need to be there during sessions?
Yes. A parent or guardian confirms they're nearby at the start of every session, and you can join the video call whenever you like.
What do you store about my child?
Only a nickname, an avatar, their reading level, and their birth year. We never ask for your child's last name, school, location, photo, or email. Read more about safety and privacy.
Can a volunteer contact my child outside a session?
No. There's no chat or messaging, and volunteers never see your email or phone number. Coaches and readers only meet inside sessions you book.
How long is a session?
About 20 minutes, which is long enough to read a good run of sentences and short enough to keep it fun.
What do we need to join a session?
A tablet or computer with a camera and microphone, a reasonably quiet spot, and a grown-up nearby.
How much time does volunteering take?
As much as you choose. You post the times you're free, and families book those slots. Each session is 20 to 30 minutes.
